This week we have been in a lot of trainings. Here are the kindergarten and first grade literacy teachers looking at their curriculum maps and making decisions for instruction. I love seeing team work.

Wow the summer sure went by fast. Yesterday my office mates and I worked to tackle our very neglected office. We did the furniture shuffle, you know, move this here so it can be moved there only to end up where it was. It's funny how the smallest things bring great joy. I have been a bug in my principal's ear, asking for a meeting carpet for small group. Yesterday, she granted this wish. OH JOY!! We rolled out the carpet and my colleague and I were too tickled. We realized in our small space this carpet looks huge but we are going to make it work. There is so much more to be done to our office but we got a good start. This summer I served as Site Coordinator for our Rising Reader program sponsored by the International House. It was an extraordinary opportunity for me to continue developing my leadership skills. We were able to serve over 70 language learner students. I created a curriculum that was specifically designed to meet the needs of our very diverse population.
During the summer I worked with three amazing teachers and 18 tutors and elective teachers. The small group environment allowed for students to get the one on one attention so many desperately need. We saw tremendous progress and believe this summer experience will translate into a more solid foundation of learning for the upcoming school year. The students and staffed had a great time with Hugo the Hornet!!! Hugo inspired us all to become part of the Reading Revolution with great songs, videos and a perfect message. Are you a part of the revolution???? Next week the Winterfield Bears will be "buzzing" with excitement as we welcome Hugo the Hornet and the Hornet Book Bus. Look for
Today we welcomed 134 new kindergarten students. The halls were full of energy of excited students and weeping mothers. As always the kids did a fantastic job practicing school rules and expectations. I am looking forward to great things this year. Today the kindergarten team and I finished assessing the last of 130 students, and putting them in classes. I am exhausted but exhilirated too! I can't wait to see all the kinders at once.
